FAQ Hub
Not coverage-specific questions โ those live on their own pages. This is everything about the process itself: quoting, billing, and operating across states.
If you're looking for what general liability covers, what a certificate of insurance shows, or how much coverage costs, those live on their own dedicated pages, linked in the sidebar. This page is specifically for the operational questions that don't belong to any single coverage type โ how the quote process actually works, how billing and payment function, and what changes if you operate in more than one state.
Submitting the form on this site starts a process, not an instant transaction. A licensed agent reviews what you've submitted, shops it across multiple carriers rather than presenting a single option, and comes back with a real quote โ typically the same business day. From there, you review the quote, ask questions if anything's unclear, and bind coverage when you're ready. Nothing is automatic or instant until you actually choose to move forward.
You're not obligated by requesting a quote. It's genuinely just information at that stage โ a real number based on your actual business, not a placeholder estimate. If the number doesn't work, or you want to compare it elsewhere, that's fine. If you're ready to move forward, binding coverage is when it actually becomes active and a certificate can be issued.
Most carriers offer both structures. Annual payment is usually the more cost-effective option overall, since some carriers apply a small surcharge for monthly billing to cover the administrative cost of processing payments more frequently. Monthly payment spreads the cost out, which matters more for cash flow in a new or seasonal business than the modest premium difference does. There's no universally right answer โ it depends on what your cash flow actually looks like.
Business changes don't always align neatly with your renewal date โ you hire your first employee, add a truck, or start taking on commercial work partway through your policy term. Most of these changes can be handled mid-term through an endorsement rather than waiting for renewal, though some (like adding workers compensation where you didn't have it before) may need more than a simple adjustment. Tell your agent about changes as they happen rather than waiting, since operating with a policy that no longer matches your actual business is its own exposure.
If you take jobs in more than one state, this needs to be reflected in your policy โ coverage availability and pricing both vary by state, and simply assuming your home-state policy extends automatically to a job across a state line isn't a safe assumption. Tell your agent every state you operate in, not just where your business is registered, so your policy actually matches where you're doing work.
The process moves fastest when you can provide a reasonably accurate sense of your annual revenue, the states you operate in, whether you have employees or subcontractors, and the type of flooring work you primarily do. You don't need exact figures โ reasonable estimates are enough to get a real quote, not just a placeholder range. See our cost breakdown for a sense of what to expect before you start, or our guide for new businesses if you're just getting started.

Typically the same business day once you've submitted the form, though it can vary slightly based on how complete the information provided is and current volume.
No. Requesting a quote is informational โ you review the number, ask questions if needed, and only move forward with binding coverage when you actually decide to.
It depends on your cash flow. Annual is usually slightly more cost-effective overall since some carriers apply a small surcharge for monthly billing, but monthly can matter more for a new or seasonal business managing cash flow.
Most changes โ adding an employee, a vehicle, or new type of work โ can be handled through a mid-term endorsement rather than waiting for renewal. Tell your agent as changes happen.
Not necessarily a separate policy, but your existing policy needs to reflect every state you actually operate in. Tell your agent all the states you work in, not just where you're registered.
Tell us about your business and we'll shop it across multiple carriers โ usually back the same business day.
